The Scenic Half > FAQs FAQSWhat is it? A Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K running event. When is it? The Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010.
The Half Marathon will begin at 8:30 a.m. The 10K will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m. The 5K will begin at approximately 9 a.m. Where is the start? All activities will be held and all races will begin/end at Sandpoint City Beach.
Sandpoint City Beach has free parking for 250 cars and 15 RV’s or vehicles with trailers. Unfortunately, these spots will fill up quickly on race day. Be aware that you can not park in the Best Western Edgewater Hotel's parking lot.
Please plan on using alternative parking. There is free Public Parking in the lot bounded by Second Ave., Church St., Fourth Ave., and Oak St. It is located two blocks West of City Beach. There is also free, untimed parking available on all Sandpoint streets on Sundays. Can I start early? No, you can’t. Early starts will mess up our chip timing. Are there different “waves” for elite runners? No. We ask that faster runners position themselves closer to the start line while slower runners position themselves closer to the back. Awards are given out by chip time based on when runners cross the start and finish lines. We recommend that faster runners wishing to avoid early race congestion arrive early to get good starting positions. How do I register? What do I get for my entry fee besides the opportunity to run a beautiful course? 5K participants will receive a cotton t-shirt. The 5K is not a timed event, so participants will not receive any medals. However, participants will be provided race bibs with their race numbers which can be kept as souvenirs. 10K participants will receive a cotton short sleeve participant t-shirt and goodie bags at packet pickup. Medals will also be awarded to the top three chip time finishers in each five-year gender age group. The medals will be presented at the awards ceremony after the race. Half Marathon participants will receive a technical t-shirt and goodie bags at packet pickup. Half marathon finishers will also receive a finisher medal upon crossing the finish line. Medals will be awarded to the top three chip time finishers in each five-year gender age group. Plaques will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers at the award ceremony. Registration will close by 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18. No race day registration. Are bandits welcome? No. All non-registered runners or runners not wearing a race bib will not be allowed into the finish chutes. Is the course certified? Not at this time. How many aid stations are there on the course? Water/sports drink stations will be available approximately every 1-2 miles. Portable toilets will be stationed at every water/sports drink station. Medical stations will be at the start/finish line and at the Half Marathon turnaround.
What do I do with my personal belongings? There will be a baggage check near the start/finish line. Will there be people taking pictures of me on the course? Yes. Point Photography will take finish line photos. Soon after the race the photos will be posted and available for viewing and purchase. Please visit PointPhotography.com to view 2009 photos. When is the Awards Ceremony? The Awards Ceremony will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. What about dogs, strollers, and headphones on the course? The City of Sandpoint has a rule against dogs in city parks. Therefore, all dogs are strictly banned from the event, including the pre- and post-race activities. No strollers are allowed on the course during the event due to the narrowness of the running path and safety concerns. Headphones are not encouraged, but if you do decide to use them, please keep the volume at a low level so you will be able to hear other runners and instructions from course officials (especially at traffic intersections). All runners are expected to practice proper running etiquette. Our hope is that all participants have a safe and enjoyable experience. How do I get there? Please view our Travel section for more information. What kind of weather can I expect in Sandpoint in late September? The average high is 69 degrees, the average low is 40 degrees, and the average precipitation is .06 inches of rain. Beyond that, your guess is as good as ours. |
